You Help Neighbors Help Themselves

June 26, 2025

For Matthew, your support of Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin is life-changing.

Times have been hard for Matthew lately. After a good friend passed away, Matthew became homeless. He’s looking for work and a place to live before he starts school in the fall. But while he works to make his life better, he relies on help from the Open Door Café in Milwaukee, a partner of Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin.

“They’re nice. They’re kind. They’re friendly,” Matthew says of the staff and volunteers at the Open Door Café. “I came late once when it was closed, and they sat here and gave me a bagged lunch. They still opened up their doors and gave me food.” What an amazing story of generosity and support!

Most of the time, though, Matthew comes to the Open Door Café while it’s open for lunch every day. He especially loves the croissants, popcorn, and turkey and ham sandwiches.

Without our partner pantries, Matthew says he would often go hungry. “I’ve gone weeks without eating before. I’d probably be hungry right now,” he says. And without friends like you, those partner pantries wouldn’t be able to help neighbors like Matthew while they try to help themselves.

Thank you for giving your neighbors the support they need while they work to change their lives. Please give again to help more neighbors like Matthew while they head back to school!
