Host a Virtual Fund Drive

Interested in hosting a Virtual Fund Drive? Thanks to our bulk-buying power, every $1 donated will provide 4 healthy meals for a family! Donation dollars from Virtual Fund Drives are used to purchase produce, meats, and dairy products that we can’t receive through traditional Food Collection Drives, which focus on non-perishable food donations. Virtual Fund Drives are easy to share with friends and family over social media, and can even be set up as a head-to-head contest for workplaces or organizations!

How does a Virtual Fund Drive work?

In lieu of a physical Food Collection Drive (see section below), hosting a Virtual Fund Drive is a great way to help Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin ensure we are providing perishable foods like produce, meats, and dairy products to our neighbors in need! Virtual Fund Drives are a custom webpage through our secure fundraising platform, Fundraise Up, that you can customize specifically for your business, company, sports team, or organization and easily share through social media or many other digital platforms. The easy-to-use Donor Portal allows you to view the number of donations already made, number of times your page has been viewed, total dollar amount raised, and the dollar amount left to reach your goal. You can also easily make edits through the Donor Portal with just a few clicks.

What are the steps I need to follow to create a Virtual Fund Drive?

STEP 1:
Once you have reviewed the following instructions, click the “Create A Virtual Fund Drive” button below to get started.

STEP 2:
Click “Start a Fundraiser” if this is the first time you have created a Virtual Fund Drive through Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin.

STEP 3:
Enter a Display Name – most often, this will be the name of the business, company, sports team, or organization that is holding the Virtual Fund Drive. It can also be the name of a certain fundraising event you are associated with.

STEP 4:
Upload a Fundraiser Photo – most often, this will be the logo of the business, company, sports team, or organization that is holding the Virtual Fund Drive. The recommended dimensions for this image are at least 128px x 128px.

STEP 5:
Set a Fundraising Goal – this varies for every Virtual Fund Drive and is just an amount you or your group hope to raise for Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin (absolutely no commitments to that amount are made from you setting this goal).

STEP 6:
Enter in Your Message – most often, this is a message to those that will receive a link to this Virtual Fund Drive, letting them know what it is, who it is for, and why it matters! Please note this message has a maximum character count of 120 characters, so be sure to make it brief!

STEP 7:
Set a Goal Date – most often, this is the final day you would like the Virtual Fund Drive to run through. We recommend setting the Goal Date for at least two weeks after the creation of the Virtual Fund Drive to give it time to catch on!

STEP 8:
Once you have filled out all of that information, click the Continue button.

STEP 9:
Enter your email address or the email address of the person responsible for hosting this Virtual Fund Drive. After verification of the email address, that person will receive access to a Virtual Fund Drive dashboard so they can easily view donations in real-time as they come in!

Host a Food Collection Drive

Interested in hosting a Food Collection Drive? Here’s some helpful information to get you started:

Where can I get a donation box for my Food Collection Drive?

We have branded cardboard donation boxes available for pick up at our Milwaukee or Appleton campus. A few important things to keep in mind:

  • Branded donation boxes (maximum of five) can be picked up at 1700 W. Fond du Lac Avenue in Milwaukee, or 2911 W. Evergreen Drive in Appleton during normal weekday business hours.
  • The donation boxes are 4ft. x 5ft. when flattened and will likely require the car seats to be folded down in order to fit in the back of most vehicles.
  • Donation boxes are subject to availability. Please note we experience much higher demand October through December due to holiday Food Collection Drives, and boxes may be unavailable.
  • Our donation boxes are primarily for branding purposes to illustrate the clear purpose of your drive. If a box gets too full, you will not be able to easily move or transport them due to the weight. When your Food Collection Drive is complete, we strongly suggest taking all donations out of the branded donation boxes and placing them in smaller, easier to carry boxes, totes, or crates.

What if I can't pick up a donation box?

Any strong container will do (Amazon boxes, Rubbermaid totes, milk crates, heavy duty shopping bags, etc.) for collecting food donations.

What food items should I collect?

Some of the most-requested non-perishable food items* from our pantry partners include:

  • Peanut Butter
  • Canned Fruits
  • Canned Vegetables
  • Soups
  • Rice
  • Pasta
  • Juice
  • Canned Meats (tuna, chicken)
  • Boxed Cereal
  • Tomato Sauce

*Please do not collect glass jars or any food items that are perishable (dairy products, meats, produce).

What do I do once my Food Collection Drive is complete?

When your Food Collection Drive is complete, bring your donations to our Milwaukee or Appleton campus and our Volunteer or Operations Team will assist you. Please also return any branded donation boxes you borrowed (if applicable) for your drive. If you have time, we’ll even weigh your donations and tell you the exact total impact of your collection in meals! This is also a great opportunity for a photo with our Volunteer Team!

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the volume of Food Drives held across our footprint, we are unable to drop off donation boxes and/or pick up donations.
