Combat Hunger

May 22 @ 6:00 am - 6:00 pm

Join Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin, in partnership with Woodward Community Media and Pick ‘n Save, for the 7th Annual Combat Hunger food and funds drive on Thursday, May 22nd. This 12-hour event, benefiting residents of Wisconsin Veterans Village, will be held rain or shine at the Appleton Pick ‘n Save at 2700 N. Ballard Road from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Community members are encouraged to stop by anytime between during the event to drop off non-perishable food items or make a cash/credit card donation. Pick ‘n Save gift cards can also be purchased in-store and donated at the event. Non-perishable food donations can be placed in marked bins outside the store entrance or handed off to representatives from the participating organizations.

Combat Hunger is free and open to the public – attendees can snap photos alongside a Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) brought on-site by Oshkosh Defense and meet local radio personalities from several of Woodward Community Media’s AM and FM stations.

In 2024, the drive raised over 2,300 pounds of food and $16,300 in monetary donations, the equivalent of nearly 67,000 meals to veterans and their families in Northeast Wisconsin.

According to the latest USDA data, over 24% of the active U.S. military population is food insecure, with 1-in-9 working-age veterans currently living in a food insecure household and 1.2 million low-income veterans utilizing SNAP benefits. Additionally, active-duty service members are more likely to experience food insecurity than civilian adults due in part to household income instability and frequent relocation and unpredictable deployments. Combat Hunger is supported by Woodward Community Media, Pick ‘n Save, TDS Telecom, and Jack’s Maintenance Service.
