Summer is in full swing, but fall is just around the corner. The new school year will be starting soon, bringing excitement and new routines.
Sadly, for many of our Eastern Wisconsin neighbors, food insecurity and hunger are part of that routine. As the cost of food remains elevated, our neighbors continue to struggle to afford the nutritious food they need to stay nourished and healthy.
Some children will start receiving free meals when they go back to school, easing the challenge families face in providing extra meals at home during the summer.

You Help Neighbors Help Themselves
For Matthew, your support of Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin is life-changing.
Times have been hard for Matthew lately. After a good friend passed away, Matthew became homeless. He’s looking for work and a place to live before he starts school in the fall. But while he works to make his life better, he relies on help from the Open Door Café in Milwaukee, a partner of Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin.
“They’re nice. They’re kind. They’re friendly,” Matthew says of the staff and volunteers at the Open Door Café.

Program Spotlight: Lakeshore CAP
Sandi has spent almost three decades at Lakeshore Community Action Program in Sturgeon Bay. Half of those have been at the food pantry, where she’s now the director. If anyone knows the massive impact the program has had on the community, it’s Sandi!
The Lakeshore CAP food pantry is laid out like a grocery store, with visitors getting to pick and choose what they need each time they visit.

Meet Jeanne
If you arrive at Shalom Center in Kenosha on a Wednesday or Friday, you’ll probably see Jeanne checking people in or loading cars!
Jeanne has been volunteering at Shalom Center for just over two years and has seen the need in her community rising. But she recently experienced a worrying milestone at the pantry.
“It’s been slowly increasing. Last Wednesday, we had our second busiest day ever.”
