Partner Spotlight: The Salvation Army Green Bay
May 26, 2026
Abby hasn’t held her role as Pantry Coordinator of The Salvation Army Green Bay for long. But in that time, she’s learned a lot about her community … and what food insecurity in Green Bay looks like.
“We have about 250 households coming through each month,” Abby shares, noting that this number represents a mix of families, single adults, and individuals experiencing homelessness. In single numbers? It’s upwards of 6,500 people!
The pantry provides packed bags filled with balanced meals thoughtfully curated from items received (whole or in part) from Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin. “We’re trying to be more intentional about how we’re packing the bags. When we put in a tomato, maybe then put in some black beans so we can try and make a specific type of meal,” Abby explains. In the near future, she hopes to start including recipe cards to help neighbors get the absolute most out of each and every food bag.
But the pantry’s impact extends beyond food. Abby recounted an interaction with a guest who was nonverbal and stranded without a ride. After assisting her to the bus stop with groceries, Abby received a huge hug and the sign for “thank you.” “It really humbled me,” Abby reflects. “It reminded me why we do this.”
