Letter From the President and CEO

It is an honor to write my first letter to you as President and CEO of Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin. I’m grateful to join an organization with a strong legacy of compassion, and I’m especially thankful for supporters like you who make this work possible every day. Your generosity helps ensure our neighbors across Eastern Wisconsin have access to the food they need to live healthy and hopeful lives.

As I step into this role, one issue that weighs heavily on my heart is childhood hunger. Right here in our region, 1 in 6 children struggle with hunger. It’s true that the start of the school year will bring a return of free or reduced-price breakfasts and lunches for many children.

"It Was Wonderful"

Victoria had never visited a food pantry before and wasn’t sure what to expect.

She’s a stay-at-home mom with six kids who does it all while her partner works, and she finds it hard to ask for help. But lately, like many neighbors in Eastern Wisconsin, she’s finding it more difficult to stretch one income to cover all the family’s needs.

“It’s Very Appreciated”

Yasmin has been visiting the WestCare pantry in Milwaukee once or twice every month while she looks for work. But a job that pays enough can be difficult to find with rising prices for groceries and four young kids at home who need care.

And Yasmin knows what it is to go without, having found herself in the difficult position of choosing between paying bills and buying groceries in the past. Without pantries like WestCare, Yasmin says she’d likely have to ask family for help … or find herself choosing between food and bills again.

Volunteer Spotlight: Pauline

When Pauline retired from her job in an elementary school cafeteria, she wanted to use her free time to give back to her community. So she walked into The Salvation Army in Chilton and asked what needed to be done … and she never left!

For over a decade, Pauline has been a cornerstone of the Chilton community, dedicating her time and energy to helping her neighbors. In that time, she’s seen the need in the area skyrocket. “We have new families coming in all the time now with the cost of things,” she says.

Partner Spotlight: The Salvation Army Green Bay

Abby hasn’t held her role as Pantry Coordinator of The Salvation Army Green Bay for long. But in that time, she’s learned a lot about her community … and what food insecurity in Green Bay looks like.

“We have about 250 households coming through each month,” Abby shares, noting that this number represents a mix of families, single adults, and individuals experiencing homelessness. In single numbers? It’s upwards of 6,500 people!
