Meeting the Growing Need in Our Communities

April 21, 2026

Jack is the Operations Manager of the Jim Luther New Hope Center on the south side of Milwaukee. He’s been familiar with the food bank scene for a couple of years now, formerly working as a Volunteer Coordinator at the Kinship Community Food Center in Milwaukee.

Sadly, since he first joined the Jim Luther New Hope Center, Jack has seen the need for food assistance nearly double.

“My first couple months here, we were probably getting between 30 to 45 families per day,” Jack says. “I’d say we probably have increased our numbers by 50%.”

He predicts this sharp increase happened in part due to economic challenges — like recent cuts to federal funding.

Thankfully, through their food pantry’s crucial partnerships with organizations like Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin, our neighbors can continue accessing the food they need this summer and all year round.

Yet, no matter how the need changes over time, Jack and the Jim Luther New Hope Center will keep working to ensure a hunger-free future for all.

“It’s a really strong network of people here that really support one another,” Jack says. “So I think that’s kind of how a lot of people can help make ends meet.”

We’re so grateful to have friends like you and Jack by our side. Together, we are solving hunger!
