Volunteer Spotlight: Pauline

May 26, 2026

When Pauline retired from her job in an elementary school cafeteria, she wanted to use her free time to give back to her community. So she walked into The Salvation Army in Chilton and asked what needed to be done … and she never left!

For over a decade, Pauline has been a cornerstone of the Chilton community, dedicating her time and energy to helping her neighbors. In that time, she’s seen the need in the area skyrocket. “We have new families coming in all the time now with the cost of things,” she says.

Volunteering to help her community is endlessly important to Pauline, and she hopes to instill that same love of supporting the community in the next generation. Her grandchildren often help out at the pantry, and she’s proud of the generous spirit she sees growing in them. She knows how rewarding the experience can be.

“There’s a lot of gratitude that you receive from doing it. I always tell people when you volunteer, you get so much more back than what you give. … There are people hurting out there.”

Thanks to compassionate volunteers like Pauline, people in our community who are struggling know they aren’t alone. Your gifts of money and time are vital to helping neighbors in need in our community.
