Fighting Hunger for Our Heroes

Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin is proud to help serve those who have served our country. Unfortunately, veterans are almost twice as likely to be food insecure compared to the general population. They’re also more likely to face such challenges as PTSD, anxiety, depression, and homelessness.

In Wisconsin, there are an estimated 330 veterans experiencing homelessness. But we’ve partnered with some amazing organizations that are addressing that.

One of them is Veterans Outreach of Wisconsin (VOW), which offers multiple services to vets in the Racine community. One of the services they offer is the Veteran Market pantry, where your support provides food to keep their shelves fresh and full.

The pantry, open once a week, serves only veterans and their families. More than food, the pantry offers other needed items like household goods and hygiene products, along with clothing and furniture on occasion.

When VOW first opened its doors, they sought a reliable, consistent source of food. So they reached out to Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin, and they now serve more than 100 families each month.

“The best thing about working with Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin is being able to choose what we need for the pantry,” says Stephane, VOW’s business coordinator. “Sometimes we have an overabundance of cereal, for example, but lack in something else. With Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin we’re able to fill the gaps as we have them. Which is fantastic — we can fill the need.

“In November, VOW partnered with us for their annual Thanksgiving meal boxes. Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin provided the turkey and all the fixings, and VOW built boxes that contained an entire Thanksgiving meal for everyone that came into the pantry.”

Your support helps Wisconsin veterans. Please consider another gift today.
