Letter From the President & CEO
Dear Friend,
As spring turns to summer, we’re all getting outside more.
That means we’re seeing more of each other, fostering more of a sense of community. That’s a pretty great feeling after a winter spent mostly indoors … and even more so during a pandemic.
Community.
I love that word, and I mean more than people living in proximity. One dictionary defines community as “a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals.” That’s what I mean. I feel that kind of community at Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin and throughout the 35 counties we serve. I feel it with our 400 partner pantries, programs, and meal sites who help get the food to people in need.
For example, The Salvation Army in Fond du Lac runs a partner pantry, but it’s about so much more than food distribution. “We focus heavily on building relationships,” says Crystal, their social services manager. Pantry coordinator Rebecca adds, “This isn’t just a food pantry. When you come here, you have a support team.”
That’s music to my ears. I also feel that support from our hundreds of volunteers, who put in 35,000 hours last year! And, of course, I feel that support from you, our compassionate community of friends who have joined us in the fight against hunger. Thank you so much!
Sincerely,
Patti Habeck, President & CEO
