Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin
After storms left many City of Milwaukee residents without power for days, free food and grocery gift cards will be provided to replace food lost after unprecedented event.
MILWAUKEE, WI (August 19, 2021) – In a collaboration between the City of Milwaukee and Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin, 3,000 Pick ’n Save grocery store cards will be given away through a drive-up distribution to residents of the City of Milwaukee who lost power during the recent We Energies outage caused by extreme storms and weather.
Grocery store cards will be provided on Friday, August 20 between 6 a.m. – 10 a.m. while supplies last at the Pick n Save locations at 1100 E. Garfield Ave., 7401 W. Good Hope Rd., and 250 W. Holt Ave.
One gift card per household will be provided and recipient must be present to be eligible. Each recipient must provide proof of address via driver’s license or valid state ID. Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin is working with We Energies to verify power outages. There will be a process on-site to verify outages. Individuals do not need to call We Energies for proof of power outages prior to the grocery store distribution. This is available to City of Milwaukee residents only.
“Families with limited resources have faced some real challenges after the recent storm-related electrical outages, and Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin has been a good partner in assisting residents who are affected,” Mayor Tom Barrett said. “The City of Milwaukee is pleased to allocate $200-thousand in Federal CARES Act money toward this relief effort.”
In addition to the gift card giveaway, five food box distributions are planned to help further meet the increased need brought on by the storms and extended outage. Distribution locations are: Greater New Birth, UMOS, Children’s Hospital Mid-Town Clinic, WestCare E.A.T.S. Community Pantry, and Hope Lutheran Pantry.
“Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin is excited to work with the City of Milwaukee to lessen the burden on the families impacted by the storms extended outages,” said Patti Habeck, Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin President and CEO. “Responding to this emergency is just another opportunity to help our neighbors in need.”
