The Kids Café will run for 12 months and provide hot, nutritious meals to 60 children each week.

A generous $10,000 grant from the Racine Community Foundation is helping this program thrive. The Racine Community Foundation’s mission is to enhance the quality of life for the people of Racine County by encouraging and providing opportunities for charitable giving.

“Financially supporting a program like the Kids Café that ensures children in an underserved neighborhood receive a nutritious meal is something we are thrilled to be able to do,” said Liz Powell, president and CEO of the Racine Community Foundation. “The Foundation is looking forward to a successful partnership with Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin on this vital program.”

In addition to the meals, the program includes nutrition education, homework assistance, mentoring, music lessons, and art projects. Over the course of the year, Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin will also deliver hygiene kits and school supply backpacks to each child.

This Kids Café responds to a critical need in Racine County, where nearly 8,000 children are food insecure. Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin has a special partnership with Racine County, working with 31 organizations who provide the community with access to nutritious food, shelter, and social services as part of the emergency food system.

Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin offers more Kids Cafés through Boys & Girls Clubs, YMCAs, public schools, and other churches throughout the state. When children don’t have enough to eat, they are more likely to struggle in school and develop chronic conditions like asthma. Programs like Kids Cafés help ensure children are able to maintain healthy and active lifestyles—and just be kids!
