Healthier Options with FoodShare

When the budget is tight, sometimes the easiest choice to feed the family is visiting the nearest fast-food restaurant or heating up a frozen meal. FoodShare, however, is giving people healthier options.

Many people may be surprised to learn that vegetable seeds can be purchased with FoodShare benefits. Gardening can be a great hobby to spend more time outside and be a motivator to eat healthier foods. Kathy, a gardening enthusiast and Milwaukee resident, is starting to make plans for her garden this Spring. Last year she learned that she could purchase seeds with her EBT card and grew two tomato plants that were over five feet tall. She plans on purchasing even more seeds this year. “FoodShare is such a blessing for people who are struggling to feed their families healthy foods,” says Kathy.

FoodShare benefits are also accepted at many farmers markets across Eastern Wisconsin. This is a great way to support local farmers and eat fresh goods! Check in at your local farmers market information booth to see if EBT is accepted.
