Hundreds of cars lined up for ten plus blocks to take part in Greater New Birth Church’s April drive-up food pantry service. Over 1,300 families were served with 30 to 40 pounds of groceries each to take home to their loved ones. Over 35 volunteers took part in the distribution and  put together food bags, carried the bags outside, and filled up car after car at a safe distance. Pastor Jessie Griffin said he was astounded at the amount of families in need in the community.

Greater New Birth Church has been a member of Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin for over 20 years, with their food pantry serving over 100 families each month. With COVID-19 making the church look for new ways to help the community, they held their first drive-up service in March, serving over 250 families before they ran out of food. On April 18, they ordered over 90,000 pounds of food from Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin, put out fliers and information on social media, and successfully served the community from 7 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Greater New Birth Church will be offering this service again on Saturday, May 2. Pastor Griffin said for the community to “come early and we will do everything we can to help serve the community even more this time.”

Fox 6 Now Milwaukee joined Greater New Birth Church on April 18 to capture the story. Click here to learn how Pastor Griffin served even more than he expected on that day.
