Helping Families Through Hardships

Sharon’s family means the world to her. She often has her grandchildren over, and has gone through periods of time where her grandchildren and great-grandchildren have lived with her.

Many of her grandkids — who range in age from 11 to 24 — live nearby, and she likes to make sure she has plenty of food on hand when they come to visit.

“We have our grandkids over a lot,” she says.

But having enough food for everyone can be tough. Sharon had to retire for health reasons and relies on her Social Security income, and her boyfriend is on Disability. Together, they qualify for $70 in food assistance each month, which does not go far enough.

Recently, Sharon’s son was diagnosed with MS. She borrowed money to help his family pay for medical expenses, which has created extra hardships for both families.

But thanks to generous donors like you, Sharon and her daughter-in-law both have access to nutritious food through the Fondy Food Pantry located in Fond du Lac. The two often make meals to share, and they help each other out whenever they can.

“We love coming here,” Sharon says. “We got three meats, and lots of bread, cookies, cereal, all the basics. You get your milk, your eggs, your cheese … your veggies and your toilet paper.”

Sharon says they even had a birthday cake for her daughter-in-law, whose birthday was the day before. Your support helped brighten their day!

Thank you for giving to Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin. Your gifts help provide food and hope for families facing tough times.
