“It Will Help Us a Lot”

Every month, 100 or so cars line up for the Oconomowoc Mobile Food Pantry, some waiting for hours.

Sadly, August 2023 was the last distribution, as the site closed for lack of funding. We visited this pantry on the last day, listening to neighbors express gratitude and lament the loss of a vital pantry in a community with so much need.

One of the visitors, Ashley, stopped with her daughter, Heidi, visiting for the first time. “We’re going through some financial difficulties right now with the economy and my husband being out of work, so this is really good,” she says. “It will help us a lot.”

Ashley’s husband is in construction, and the work ebbs and flows. Right now, work has dried up, and they’re struggling to make ends meet, especially with three kids: two boys ages 3 and 7, and Heidi, who is 11. “The boys, well, the kids eat a lot these days,” Ashley says.

“I’m very grateful that we are able to come here and get a little extra to get by until we can get paid again,” she adds.

It’s your support that helps families like Ashley’s get the help they need. And remember, right now for the holidays your gift goes twice as far! Thank you!
