Public Policy and Advocacy

Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin’s mission is to solve hunger. We cannot do that alone. We need you.

When you use your voice to help us advocate for strong public policies that fight hunger, you are making an important contribution toward building sustainable hunger solutions.

We work to protect and strengthen the federal nutrition program to ensure that no one in Wisconsin goes hungry. We believe that together we are solving hunger with strong public policies at the local, state, and federal levels working in tandem with the charitable emergency food network.

Educating state and federal lawmakers to support legislative solutions to end hunger remains a critical part of our work. Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin works with our local, state, and national partners to educate elected officials about the impact of food insecurity in their communities and identify policy solutions to put families on the road to a healthy, food-secure future.
Feeing America Eastern Wisconsin is seeking City of Milwaukee residents who are passionate about their community and interested in both food access and developing policy solutions to address Milwaukee’s food systems challenges. Learn more about our Food Leaders Lab.

Our current focus is on these legislative efforts: FoodShare Wisconsin
FoodShare is Wisconsin’s largest anti-hunger program. We advocate to strengthen and protect access, participation, and nutritional quality of the FoodShare program. During the COVID-19 pandemic and the federal response to the impact of this public health emergency, there have been many changes to the FoodShare program. We follow these changes closely to ensure that eligible folks can connect to this vital program.

Child Nutrition Reauthorization
Congress has an important opportunity in 2021 to improve the health of millions of our nation’s children by passing a strong reauthorization bill that protects and strengthens the child nutrition programs. These successful, cost-effective federal nutrition programs play a critical role in helping children in low-income families get access to child care, as well as to educational and enrichment activities, while improving their overall nutrition, health, development, and academic achievement.
