Intern Spotlight: Meet Hannah

Published On: July 4th, 2019Categories: Post

Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin is thrilled to have Hannah as a development intern for the summer.

What are you in school for? I am a rising junior at Marquette University, double majoring in Communication Studies and Social Welfare and Justice.

Why did you choose to intern at Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin? I watched a pair of documentaries – one related to food waste and hunger in America and one spotlighting families in the Milwaukee community who relied heavily on government subsidies and food banks to live their lives – and I was immediately inspired to work towards change. These documentaries drove me to learn more about hunger, attend and participate in hunger awareness presentations and simulations, and ultimately choose to spend my summer with Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin!

What has been your favorite part about working at Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin so far? The staff at Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin is amazing and the impact we make is very visible in the community. Everyone works so hard, is extremely kind, and has very different roles to keep the gears turning behind the scenes. I have had the opportunity to help lead events, shadow volunteer group leaders, sort food in the warehouse, and have already set plans to help with many other tasks within the organization. The overall hard work and drive of every individual in the organization is so inspiring!

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself:  I spent my high school career traveling the country to present projects and events I created to benefit my small town community and surrounding areas. I have been to 19 states and counting!
