19th Annual PB&J Challenge

Published On: February 1st, 2022Categories: Campaign, Post

If you haven’t seen his TikToks yet, PJ is Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin’s official mascot. His favorite month is here, as February 1st marks the beginning of our month-long PB&J Challenge. For 19 consecutive years, Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin has worked with schools, churches, and other local organizations to collect peanut butter, other nut butters, and jelly. It is important to keep pantry shelves full of these items all year round, so an entire month is dedicated to collecting as much as possible.

Peanut butter and jelly both have a longer shelf life so they last longer than other sandwich-making ingredients like turkey or ham. Along with being rich in protein, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich is easy enough for children to make by themselves if their parents or guardians aren’t available. Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin wants to ensure that kids are always able to access nutritious food when they’re hungry!

Besides being able to make the classic PB&J, there are plenty of ways that you can eat peanut butter or other nut butters for any meal of the day. PJ’s favorite snack is peanut butter & apples with a marshmallow smile! Try these other simple recipes:

PJ would love your help spreading the love this month!

  1. Register yourself or your team to host a food or fund drive.
  2. Raise awareness by sharing on social media how you like your pb&j. Tag @feedingamericawi and hashtag #PB&JYOURWAY
  3. Support small businesses The Peanutbutter & Jelly Deli in West Allis or Voyageurs Bakehouse in Appleton. By ordering their sandwich of the month, you are also supporting the PB&J Challenge!
  4. Text JELLY to 41444 to give. Every $1 donated provides 4 meals to someone facing hunger.
  5. Round-up at the register when visiting your local Pick ‘n Save or Metro Market.
