Providing Food for Families

When prices skyrocketed in the grocery stores a few years ago, a lot of neighbors felt the squeeze on their budgets. Prices for necessities and utilities rose quickly, but household incomes didn’t necessarily rise along with those costs.

Many neighbors relied on the nutritious foods they could access from their local food pantry. Neighbors like Dave, who works as an auto mechanic. He says the combination of limited income and rising prices created a hardship for his family.

On top of grocery prices being high, Dave said unexpected expenses — like an electric bill of $700 — made it difficult to make ends meet.
Dave is thankful for the Oconomowoc Mobile Food Pantry, where he was able to pick up food for his household, and for his son as well. His son is on Disability and can only work a limited number of hours, so having the extra bit of food makes a difference for him.

“There’s meat, eggs, bread, sometimes some snacks,” Dave says.

Around 100 cars were lined up for the distribution, and neighbors were disappointed to learn that the following month would be the last one because it just didn’t have the funding it needed to continue.

Recent data shows that 44 million people lived in food-insecure households last year. That’s an increase of more than 10 million people at a time when donations are down. With help from our generous donors, we know we will be able to expand our services so no Wisconsin neighbor has to go without the food they need.

With your continued support, more programs like the Oconomowoc Mobile Food Pantry can keep rolling!
