Fresh produce is one of the most frequently requested items by our members and moves quickly out of our food banks. Fresh produce is critical to solving hunger in eastern Wisconsin. By working with farmers and growers across our 36 county service area, Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin is providing more fresh, healthy and nutritious food the people of eastern Wisconsin.
There are many benefits to donating your excess or slightly imperfect produce:
- Receipts for potential tax deductions
- Reduction of costs associated with storage, transportation and disposal
- Waste minimization and assistance with sustainability
Becoming a Donor:
Farmers and growers who would like to donate excess food should contact Ross Younger, Director of Food Resources, at 414-831-6335 or by email to discuss setting up a partnership.
The Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Donations Act is a federal law ensuring that donors are protected from any civil and criminal liability, as long as the product is donated in good faith. In addition, both of our food banks are AIB Compliant, ensuring that your donation will be handled safely.
Many donations of product also are eligible for an enhanced tax deduction under IRS 170(C)(3). Please consult your tax advisor for details.
