Feed Your Soul Raises Record-Breaking Amount

Feed Your Soul, a unique visual and performing arts-based fundraising event, has been run by a committee of dedicated volunteers since its inception 16 years ago. Amy Meyer, architecture and design manager at furniture manufacturer Gunlocke, explained that the committee started the fundraiser as a way for the design community to give back.

“There were five of us and we planned the first year over a couple glasses of wine and our contact lists,” Meyer said. “One of the designers had worked with Jeremy (Shamrowicz) and his company Flux Design and thought that they’d be a great partner. Three months later we had our first event there, with about 250 people, hummus and chips, and some wine and beer.”

This year, over 600 guests came to see painters, jewelry makers, and tattoo artist Adam Werther live in action at Flux Design’s spacious new location on N. Richards St. in Riverwest. Guests bid on their favorite pieces, which the winners were able to take home at the end of the evening. All the money raised from the auction contributed to the evening’s grand total of $92,217 for hunger relief.

“It’s taken off, but always has the same very grass roots feel,” Meyer said. “We all just roll up our sleeves and rely on each other and our talented networks to put on this amazing event that does so much good for our community.”

DJ Tarik Moody from 88Nine Radio Milwaukee, Anna Belle Aerial performers, and jazz band J. Ryan Trio added even more entertainment. While walking around to view art, attendees enjoyed cocktails from Central Standard Craft Distillery and craft beer from Gathering Place Brewing Company. Guests also tasted miniature liège waffles and baguette sandwiches from Press Waffles, sliders from Double B’s BBQ and gnocchi from Centro Café.

The $92,217 raised will be used to provide 276,651 meals for the local community. Stay tuned for details on the 17th annual Feed Your Soul at FYSMKE.com
