Take Your Child to Work Day is a fun event where children get to experience the day-to-day work their parents or guardians do. Northwestern Mutual wanted to use the day to show how important philanthropy is to their company and included an activity where they could give back.

Children wrote inspiration quotes and drew colorful pictures on lunch bags. Once finished, they filled the bags up with food, drinks, and snacks. The bags were distributed at three school pantries that Northwestern Mutual sponsored located at Clark Street, Auer Avenue, and Forest Homes. Over 200 families went home with groceries and brightly colored lunch bags.

“Kids who are hungry struggle in school and often have other health issues,” Lynn Heimbruch, assistant director of Northwestern Mutual Foundation Heimburch said. “Helping families secure food with our time and resources is the right thing to do.”

Northwestern Mutual has been supporting Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin for many years. From sponsoring mobile pantries to donating time volunteering, they’ve made a big difference in the community.

“Northwestern Mutual has always valued giving back, it’s an integral part of who we are as a corporate citizen,” Heimbruch shared. “Providing financial and volunteer support to Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin helps get healthy food in the hands of children and families in need in our community.”

We truly appreciate partners like Northwestern Mutual who are dedicated to helping others in the community. If you’re interested in giving back to the community, sign up to volunteer or host a food drive on our website.
