How Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin is Responding to the Coronavirus

Published On: March 13th, 2020Categories: Post

Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin’s top priority is the health and safety of the families and individuals we serve, as well as food bank staff and volunteers. We are closely monitoring the coronavirus pandemic and are actively consulting with the Feeding America National Organization and local health departments.

We are continuing to provide food to our members, so they may serve the people struggling with hunger in their local communities. In regards to the the distribution of food, we have taken steps to minimize touch points to ensure food safety. We have increased the frequency of our cleaning processes to sanitize common areas in all our facilities.

All volunteers are asked to wash hands prior to entering and exiting our warehouses. We also ask that all volunteers and staff stay home if they are feeling ill.

While it is still too early to determine the full economic effects of the coronavirus outbreak, Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin is preparing to handle a potential increase in demand. We will continue to work to help people facing hunger get the food they need.

How can you help?
Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin continues to distribute food to those in need despite the coronavirus pandemic. As you may expect, access to our usual sources of donated food is reduced at this time.  With the growing need we are anticipating to see from our neighbors, our ability to keep the flow of food from producer, through our food bank, and to our pantries and members we partner with to feed the community is more important than ever.

We’ve developed a COVID-19 Rapid Response Plan that includes reducing or eliminating shared maintenance fees to members, pre-purchasing needed food items, and unexpected overtime incurred by staff. To make a monetary donation to support our COVID-19 Rapid Response Plan, please click here.

Volunteers remain crucial to our operations. At this time we are keeping our regular volunteer shifts open, but are limiting the number of volunteers per shift to a maximum of 25. We are also adding cleaning and sanitizing steps before, during, and after all volunteer activities.  To sign up for a volunteer shift, click here.

If you have any questions or concerns, please email us here and we will respond in timely manner.

Thank you for your support.
